Fusion SEND Hub is delighted to be working together in conjunction with Carnegie Leaders in Learning Leeds Beckett University to provide the Middle Leaders and Senior Leaders NPQ qualifications. The first NPQSL and NPQML cohorts began in late Summer 2018 with over 25 Senior and Middle Leaders involved in both courses.
Undertaking a NPQ requires you to attend three full day sessions and two ½ day sessions during the year. This is a fantastic chance to facilitate quality leadership development in our region. Across primary, special and secondary sectors with a joined up approach that gives access to serving head teachers, senior and middle leaders, currently working in our community, with a deep understanding of the needs, opportunities and challenges we face in our schools.
We have based our delivery model very much on supporting the journey of development that leaders go through and incorporating the “How” not just the “What” in this highly rated leadership training. The specially selected facilitators will stay with each cohort through that learning journey to encourage trust and buy in from participants. The emphasis is on quality and shared learning experiences rather than profit.
In 2018 the Secretary of State for Education announced that there was scholarship funding (SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY) to enable teachers and leaders in challenging areas to access the reformed National Professional Qualifications (NPQs). This funding is for teachers and leaders working in Opportunity Areas and category 5 and 6 areas. Available for participants leading in the Opportunity Areas Bradford, Doncaster, Scarborough and/or those working in schools in Barnsley, Hull, East Riding, NE Lincs, North Lincs, Sheffield and Kirklees.
Please bear in mind funding is limited and subject to availability and the DfE reserves the right to withdraw scholarships once the funding is no longer available. You do not apply for the scholarship funding yourself – Carnegie Leaders in Learning is a Department for Education Accredited NPQ provider and you can use the entitlement to scholarship funding to access NPQ provision through them (subject to contract). Carnegie LiL will automatically apply for the scholarship on your behalf, if you qualify for the eligibility criteria, once they have received and approved your application form and a payment contract. Whilst the DfE is processing the application for scholarship funding, Carnegie Leaders in Learning will require payment to be made by the school/participant as per the terms of their standard payment contract. This funding will be re-funded in full within 14 days of confirmation that a scholarship will be paid by the DfE.
The DfE have confirmed that the scholarship (when available) will cover the full costs of the programme as long as participants meet the following eligibility criteria:
* They are enrolled on an NPQ Course;
* They work in a school in a Category 5 or 6 area;
* They do not already hold the NPQ for which they have enrolled;
* They have not previously enrolled with the NPQ Provider for the same NPQ Course and dropped out before completing it; and
* The Department has not previously paid for their NPQ Course.
In the event of over subscription for the scholarship funding the DfE will apply the following criteria:
Rotherham School Improvement Service are offering schools who fully subscribe to their service a subsidy (primary £1800/ secondary £3600) towards putting staff onto NPQ programmes. Schools will need to apply as normal and following a successful application, RoSIS will release the funding. If you are in the Rotherham area you may need to contact Fiona.Radford@rotherham.gov.uk (RoSIS) for more information about this funding or JDavenport@be.jmat.org.uk (Forge TSA).
